The Sketchbook Project - DONE

Well I have finally finished my sketchbook for The Sketchbook ProjectI have to say I had the most fun doing the cover and dedication on the inside back cover. Kinda sad it is over. Maybe I should get another one? The thing is, it will be hard to hand this over, but I hope some people will check it out.

Supreme Bunch update

I'm revisiting an old theme after this week's SCOTUS decision concerning the Hobby Lobby case. Back in 2005 I drew the Supreme Court as the Brady Bunch after a friend challenged me to name all the members of the Brady Bunch, then the Supreme Court. I failed miserably so I decided to draw each one in order to remember them. I wanted to re-use these portraits but realized I needed to update my portraits to include Elena Kagan. So here she is and here they are. "This is the story, of a group named SCOTUS..."

Bobby Jindal and a constituent

This is a drawing I did way back of Bobby Jindal when he was first elected governor. Now that he's popping up in the news again I thought I'd re-post it.

Some drawings I did for a street of a certain block in NYC. Can you guess which one? I'll give you a hint, it's on the Upper West Side.

True Detective

In anticipation of this Sunday's episode of True Detective, I did some illustrations of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.  Some work better than others, but here they are.

Philip Seymour Hoffman

When I heard that Philip Seymour Hoffman died, I felt shocked and saddened, as if an actual friend of mine had died. I never met him, but I can say that I spotted him walking the streets of NYC. But that's as close as I got to him, gawking at a distance. The more I thought about him I realized that the reason I felt I knew him was from his role as Scotty J. in Boogie Nights. He is a remarkable actor. For me to watch him as Scotty J. cringe and wince and twist in shame was a command performance. In watching him, I felt all the embarrassment and shyness and vulnerability I've ever felt in my life. Now that he is gone I feel like a small part of me is too.
